Each and every night after I get off of work I need to rush over to the bus terminal and head over to my step sons after school program to pick him up. I really don't like having to be rushed after work and on a certain time frame set by the bus. I guess I really should get a car soon, but till then it is the bus for me.
When the weather is good I don't mind my time on the bus. I get fifteen minutes before I pick him up to read a little of my book or have a little snack to hold me till dinner. It is my me time. When it's raining or really cold I just really dislike that bus ride.
When it got really cold over the winter and the temperature in the evening was close to -35 I would do anything not to be on that bus. One day as my step son and I walked to the bus stop to head home someone pulled over and asked us if we needed a ride. First I must say that this was just leaving the after school program and it was a fellow parent who pulled over. If it had of been a random stranger who just pulled over I would have kept walking.
I quickly told my step son how you never get into cars with strangers but that these people we kind of knew so it was ok because I was there with him. Once in the car they asked where we were heading. Turns out we were going in the same direction. Over the next few months we drove with them and ended up making friends out of the whole deal.
I was always impressed with the kindness they showed us on that very cold winter day. I thought it was a rare trait in people today to do something like this. Well this week their son got sick and was not going to school so I was back on the bus. The weather was nicer now so I did not mind the trip. Yet I was surprised once again.
Another parent heard me talking to my step son while he was getting his jacket on that we had to hurry to get to the bus stop. As we walked out of the building the parent said "Do you want a ride at least to the bus stop?" It made my day and I told them that.
Please everyone do one kind act to another person every so often. Make someone's day better for you being in it even if it is only for a brief few seconds.
